Make a Wish Entertainment is your one-stop shop for specially designed workshops that maximise children’s creative engagement in education.
Our experienced facilitators use physical theatre, mime, role-play and art to inspire learning and creativity in children of all abilities. We create memorable educational experiences for every child in a range of subject areas, covering a variety of topics.
Play in a day: bespoke workshops tailored to your subject
We offer a range of ‘play in a day’ curriculum topics and bespoke workshops tailored to your subject, which can involve the whole school or focus on intensive work with just one class.
Arts Week activities and craft workshops
We offer a number of quality workshops in mask making, print making, prop making, mosaics, murals, numerous paper crafts as well as new media work such as digital photography and film making. We can work with you to produce a full Arts Week programme or create theme-specific experiences to enhance your in-house programme.
Literacy engagement workshops
We use drama and kinesthetic learning techniques (mime, physical theatre, role-play in character) to provide a holistic framework that has been shown to raise attainment for pupils of all abilities.1 (http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/media/uploads/documents/publications/providingthebestpdf_phpJq0DJ9.pdf)
These amazing workshops see the whole school coming together to create a pantomime show in just 60 minutes, from beginning to end. They are confidence-building, fun, and show children what goes into the creation of fairy tales and other popular stories. Our facilitators ensure that they engage with the creative imagination of every child. A perfect option for Christmas!
Garden Detectives Workshops
In association with RHS Harlow Carr, we can provide a high-energy, informative and fun interactive garden event for your school. Please contact us for more details!
Special effects make-up (suitable for older children)
Astounding, horrible, gruesome wounds! We look at how films that portray scary things involve artists to create these effects. Participants get to create their own gruesome effects, examine the concept of illusion and reality and discover that all is not as it seems in the movies and on television.
Fantastic, fun and confidence-building. The swashbuckling pirates who lead our pirate-themed workshops use music and drama to take children on a journey across the ocean to discover geography, history, science and culture – all from a piratey point of view.
Our expert choreographers take groups through the history and basic techniques of stage combat. Participants are shown different fighting techniques from selected historical periods and learn that fighting in the movies is more dance than fighting. This can be an extension of the pirate training, suitable for ages 7 and upwards.
We have experience creating Shakespeare celebration weeks, devising adaptations of the plays in schools, engaging pupils for the first time in a new Shakespeare text or working to create a Shakespeare play in a day. Make a Wish Entertainment adopts a variety of approaches that can include stage combat, film, video and special effects.
We have a catalogue of exciting workshops that include: When in Rome, The Tudors, Egyptians, Great British Heroes, Greek Myths, The Victorians and many more. You can invite a character of the past into your school or go on a classroom adventure workshop back in time to explore imaginatively and present your findings to the rest of the school.
Our Hero Training workshops help to build confidence, group work and social/emotional skills with our visiting superheroes. We discover what it means to be a true hero, develop teamwork and talk about who our heroes are.
We offer a variety of dance workshops for schools as one-off enrichment days or as regular sessions. We help children learn how to coordinate their bodies as individuals and in groups.
Our drumming sessions are great fun and teach the basics of rhythm, listening and responding, counting, turn taking and nonverbal communication. We can work with large or small groups as one-off sessions or as regular classes.
Raising attainment through the creative arts in creative writing is one of the things we do best! We take groups of pupils through story making and character building processes that use the whole body, so that all pupils can engage with the process and improve their creative writing skills.
Our specialist team has much experience working on creative transition projects using drama and fine art to address moving up and moving on.
Science theatre workshops
Make a Wish Entertainment is particularly experienced at delivering science discovery workshops that involve every pupil in the learning process. Topics include: venture into space, learning about me, under the sea, weather and climate, and many more.
Anti-bullying (Promoting Positive Relationships)
We have expert practitioners who use Forum Theatre techniques to present engaging scenarios where pupils are given the skills to transform conflict, help friends and be the best that they can be. Our expert practitioners are trained in child protection policy and have worked for Local Education Authorities working with schools to increase positive relationships using restorative practice. They can show teachers techniques for helping groups of pupils reduce conflict in a busy school environment.
Prom nights/school discos
We have a great team of hosts and DJs who will make your school parties excel. We know what makes a good evening's entertainment for a variety of age groups and can add that extra zing to your school party!
Whether or not you know exactly what you want, we can help you to create the perfect event!
We had Batman, Spiderman and Supergirl at a joint 5th birthday party for my son and his best friend. From the moment the superheroes arrived they entertained and captivated the childrens attention for the whole duration of the 2 hour party. They took all the pressure off us and all we had to worry about was the food and keeping the parents watered. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They were fantastic.
